Acceptance

By using this site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

What this site is

Bill Ninja provides free informational calculators and reference material about household utility bills and related charges. It is an information service. It is not a utility, a supplier, a broker, a financial advisor, or a regulated entity of any kind, and nothing here is financial, legal, or professional advice.

Estimates are estimates

Utility billing is genuinely complicated. Rates change, tariffs contain tiers and seasonal provisions, surcharges and riders are added and removed, and the same nominal rate can produce different bills for different customers of the same utility. The calculators here produce estimates based on the figures you enter and on published averages. They will not match your bill to the cent and are not intended to. Always treat your actual bill and your utility's published tariff as authoritative.

The status of a calculator result

Because this is the term most likely to matter, it is worth stating as a matter of contract rather than as guidance. A result produced by any calculator on this site is informational output. It is not an offer, not a quotation, not a price, not a bid, not a solicitation, and not a guarantee of any amount you will be charged by anyone. Nobody is bound by it: not us, not your utility, not a supplier, not a landlord, not a housemate.

A result is a function of what you typed. Where you leave a field blank the calculator substitutes a published average, and an average is a description of a population rather than a prediction about your household. Nothing about a result creates a relationship between you and us beyond your use of the page. We are not your agent, we do not act on your behalf with any third party, and we owe you no professional, fiduciary or advisory duty. If you intend to rely on a number for a decision that carries real consequences — signing a supply contract, disputing a charge, apportioning costs between people, budgeting a purchase — verify it against your tariff, your bill, or the primary source before you act.

Accuracy

We source our figures carefully, date them, and correct them when we learn they are wrong. We do not warrant that any figure is current or complete, and we accept no liability for decisions made on the basis of an estimate produced here. If accuracy matters for a particular decision — a dispute, a contract, a purchase — verify against the primary source.

Acceptable use

You may use this site for personal and business purposes, and you may link to it freely. You may not scrape it at a volume that degrades service for others, republish substantial portions of the written content as your own, or present our calculators as another party's product.

Linking, quotation and attribution

Linking is encouraged and needs no permission. You may link to any page here, including directly to a calculator or a state page rather than to the home page, from a website, a newsletter, a forum post, or internal documentation. You do not need to ask.

You may quote briefly from the written content — a sentence or a short passage, or a figure with the period we attached to it — provided you attribute it to Bill Ninja and link to the page you took it from. Attribution matters here for a practical reason as much as a legal one: rate data goes stale, and a reader who can reach the source page can see when the figure was current.

What is not permitted is wholesale republication or white-labelling. Do not reproduce a page or a substantial part of one, do not copy the appliance or state data sets in bulk, and do not embed, reimplement, wrap, or reskin the calculators so that they appear to be your own tool or your organisation's tool. Automated collection at a rate that degrades the site for other users is also outside these terms, whatever the purpose. If you want to do something these terms do not cover, ask through the contact page.

Intellectual property

The written content, design, calculator logic, and branding on this site belong to Bill Ninja. The underlying government data — from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the Department of Energy and similar bodies — is public and carries its own terms. Brief quotation with attribution and a link is welcome.

Availability

The site is provided as-is. We do not guarantee it will be available, error-free, or uninterrupted, and we may change or remove any part of it at any time.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bill Ninja is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from use of this site or reliance on anything published here.

Indemnity

In plain language: if your use of this site causes a problem for someone else, that is yours to resolve, not ours. If a third party brings a claim against us because of how you used the site — because you republished the content, presented the calculators as your own, used a result to justify a charge to someone, scraped the site, or otherwise broke these terms or the law — you agree to cover the costs we reasonably incur in dealing with it, including legal fees. This does not apply to claims arising from our own conduct, and nothing in it limits any right you have that cannot be waived under applicable law.

Severability and entire agreement

If a court decides that any part of these terms is unenforceable, that part is treated as removed and the rest continues to apply. A clause found too broad should be read as narrowly as necessary to make it enforceable rather than struck out entirely.

These terms, together with the privacy policy and the disclaimer, are the whole of the agreement between you and Bill Ninja about your use of this site, and they replace anything said elsewhere about it. If we do not enforce a term on one occasion, that is not a waiver of it. We may update these terms; the date at the top records when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
